Open educational resources (OERs)
Open books
Open books can be everything a traditional book is, but they are available with an open licence to use, adapt, revise or share.
Open books can be interactive guides, anthologies, creative works or compilations of poems or essays, textbooks or monographs.
However, monographs are research-based and frequently come with licences that prohibit adaptation, which means they aren't considered as true open educational resources.
Leeds Open Books Programme
The University of Leeds Open Books Programme is a pioneering initiative that supports staff and students to create and publish open books and other openly licenced materials. The programme:
- fosters collaboration
- provides support and guidance
- offers training on copyright and licensing, accessibility standards and using Pressbooks.
